Alpine Peaks Apartment is onsite and adjacent to Websters on Wanaka lodge. It is ideal for any short break or holiday, or even a weekend away with friends or family. Ideally suited to a maximum of 4 guests and furnished to the highest standard.

Visiting Wanaka in late Autumn is simply one of our best-kept secrets. It’s a time for lots of local events. Autumn is coming to a close but the autumn colours are still simply beautiful. Easter celebrations (and crowds) are over. However the last week of the NZ school holidays still create a vibe in town. Local families are still out and about and those who visit Wanaka now can get the last of the best of Wanaka before winter actually arrives.
For those of you looking to come to Wanaka at this time, there are so many small local markets and festivals to enjoy. Celebrating everything from music to food plus local wine and craft beer at the end of the autumn. The Luma festival of lights is in Queenstown in June. That then leads into the legendary Winter Festival (a week of celebrations at the end of June, celebrating the opening of ski season). Please note: Winter Festival is on hold until 2022.
When we are checking in our guests at LWMA, we often are giving away little gems of local knowledge – not just passing over the keys! We like to discover people’s interests and point them in the right direction. It is always surprising how many travellers arrive in town purely to enjoy the quieter magic of the season before Winter gets underway.
Wanaka is also fondly known as an active capital in the region. There are multitudes of serious, amateur, and professional events, as well as elite athletes based here. The Contact Epic MTB Race is scheduled, late April, and the Southern Lakes Marathon, half marathon, and 10km race in early May.
Wanaka is a bit of a cyclist’s mecca. Many arrive with their bikes, however, there are loads of options for bike rentals too. They use Wanaka as their base while they explore the hundreds of km of tracks and trails in the region. Lycra-clad bikers of all ages can be seen out and about on the tracks and in the multitudes of cafes, bars, and restaurants.
Here in Wanaka guests can begin to curate their own local experiences. When they ask, we set guests off on a path around the tracks and trails that we as locals know. We listen to our guests and recommend routes we know they will enjoy. These always include some stunning scenery. It is these experiences that create those enduring memories of a holiday well spent.

The real magic in visiting Wanaka in autumn is the harvest experience of good food, wine, and craft beer. In our opinion this is what sets our region apart from almost anywhere else.
There are numerous wine and beer tours that cover the same larger commercial vineyards and breweries. However, so much more is to be gained from digging a little deeper. It is here you will find those smaller owner-operated vineyards and breweries. These are the ones that are also off the beaten track and sometimes slightly harder to find.
When we check in our guests, it’s not only the keys we pass over, it’s often little gems of local information. We know more about Wanaka than the World Wide Web! We love to offer suggestions so our guests can begin to curate their own local experiences.
When asked, we set guests off on a path around the vineyards that we as locals know and love. We recommend a very attractive route that takes our guests on their own self-drive Wanaka wine and food tour. This always includes a fabulous lunch suggestion, perhaps 3 or 4 local vineyards and some stunning scenery. After all these are what create those enduring memories of a holiday well spent.
Our self-drive wine and food tour suggestions could have you starting with tasting at Paddon’s Paddock, right on Highway 6 on the outskirts of Wanaka. They are a small newly established family-run vineyard, known for its full range of wines and the beautiful setting of its tasting room.
Moving on – take highway 8A towards Tarras, and in only 15 minutes on the road, you won’t miss the signage to Maori Point Vineyard along Maori Point Road. You will discover this little gem of a vineyard on the banks of the Mata Au (Clutha River). This area is steeped in Maori history. After this memorable stop, you are back on the road. This time head down highway 8 towards Bendigo High Country Station – legendary for its tales of Shrek the Sheep.
Pop into Mondillo Wines, specialising in the very elegant Central Otago Pinot Noir. From Mondillo you will be ready for lunch. So head on another 15 minutes heading to Cromwell where you will find The Stoaker Room. It is renowned for its local produce either smoked or cooked in French Oak Pinot Noir barrels, a truly unique experience.
It is only another 40 minutes drive back to Wanaka so call into the fruit stalls on your way back for some fresh stone fruit or a real fruit ice cream!
Once refreshed, call into the Domaine Thomson Vineyard at Lowburn overlooking the Pisa Moorings. You will be enchanted by their wines, the story behind their biodynamic wine, and the views over Lake Dunstan. Alternatively, opt for the Nanny Goat Vineyard at Queensbury. Both offer a rich array of wines and are well known for their Pinot Noir.
